IS will provide more advantage as I wont use tripod a lot during vacations. 4.0 is just one-stop behind 2.8, which 'may' be easily compensated with IS. Between the 24-70 F2.8 and the F4 version, the F2.8 II has a better reputation for optical performance. I only use zooms when I know that I need the range of focal lengths. A 24-105 makes for a good travel lens, but so does the 16-35 F4 IS. It all depends on where you plan to travel and the sorts of photo opportunities you expect. Everyone loves the 24-105mm f/4L IS version I lens. At least it seems that way. This lens has been a significant part of a very high number of amateur, enthusiast and professional kits. It is a great general purpose lens and it was an especially great value when purchased in various full frame DSLR kits.

The Sigma primes, as a group, perform well – especially the 85mm and 105mm. Interestingly the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 outperforms both Canon lenses.
